SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH—SheJumps is excited to announce SheJumps into Winter: A FUNdraising night of Avalanche Awareness at the University of Utah’s Alumni House on Jan. 21 (this Thursday). SheJumps is a 501c(3) nonprofit that was created to increase participation of women in outdoor activities through mentorship and coaching from professional and recreational outdoor female athletes.

The purpose of the evening is to bring the community together and introduce more women to the wonders of backcountry touring while giving experienced tourers more knowledge. “As a professional skier, I understand the enormity of the mountains and the constant need for knowledge and keeping myself and friends alive,” says big-mountain pro skier and SheJumps Co-Founder Lynsey Dyer.

The event will feature a presentation by veteran avalanche forecaster Evelyn Lees, and include slideshows of women skiing in the backcountry, prizes and giveaways, plus a silent auction to benefit SheJumps and Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center. Money raised will go to SheJumps programming that includes (S)heJumps into the Canyon, a four-week camp at Alta Ski Area this March where SJ affiliated athletes such as big-mountain pro skiers Lynsey Dyer and Rachael Burks teach Boys & Girls Club kids how to ski.

“This event will mark a solid introduction of the SheJumps mission to the greater Salt Lake community,” says SheJumps Executive Director Claire Smallwood. “We are excited to offer both an educational opportunity and the chance to support a great cause in one event. We are confident that this will be the first of many avalanche and backcountry educational opportunities available to women in Salt Lake that will increase the number of women empowered with knowledge to live to their potential and have fun doing it.”

Learn more about SheJumps and get outside. Doors open at 6 p.m., presentation starts at 7 p.m. At the Alumni House, across from the University of Utah’s Student Union (155 S. Central Campus Drive). Admission: $10.

In addition to events such as this, SheJumps has exciting programming planned for the winter and is always updating www.SheJumps.org with news, events, and inspirational stories from athletes, industry, and more—all designed to facilitate a connection with each other and the outdoors.
