"I accomplished my goal today," said Josh Brunson, 15. "I got off the bunny hill and shredded the snow!" Four weeks ago during the first camp of (S)heJumps into the Canyon, Josh had tweaked his knee going up the tow rope. Within 20 minutes, he was out of commission for that day. He got so scared that he didn't want to come back for the other camps. But thanks to his buddy Freeman, who participated in all four camps, he was talked into coming back for the last event on Saturday. It took some coaxing to get Josh to go up the tow rope again. It was a huge jump for him after getting hurt there once before. But as one of the other campers 12-year-old Jordan Stiffler said: "We learned in this program that even if you're scared, just give it a try. You won't get better if you don't try. It carries over to life, too. If you have a homework assignment you don't get, just try it anyway." So Josh tried, and when he got down after his first run, there wasn't a bigger smile at all of Alta Ski Area. "I did it!" he said. Within 30 minutes, he was turning and skiing no problem down the bunny hill. That afternoon, he was on the chairlift skiing with his buddy Freeman. That morning, Josh was also on Salt Lake City's Fox 13. CLICK HERE! A filmer came out to do a story on the program, and Josh was so excited to be skiing and to be on TV. "Did you see me?" he asked. "I went extra fast that time!" Thanks again to all of our wonderful coaches for being mentors to these Boys & Girls Club kids. We are hosting an end-of-program party at Trio Cafe in Sandy on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. All participants, parents, and coaches are invited. Thank you thank you! Thanks again to our sponsors: Alta Ski Area, Rossignol, Deep Powder House, Alta Ski Shop, Discrete, and the Billy Poole Ski Foundation.
